How Can A Plastic Bucket Give Such Joy

Oh, but it does. Now that I am able to be out and about more often on my own, I have time to really see what is in the stores. In the back of my mind I have been looking for something very simple to put my yarn in so it doesn't roll around on the rug. Dog hair - you know. Not good. And, I was hoping to find something fairly large and inexpensive.

I found it! I think it is perfect.

At $4.96 plus tax, it is better than perfect!

The color is just right with the other red accents in my little room. And, it is easy to move around with me where ever I want to sit. Eighteen inches across and it has handles too.  This little spot can be it's home.

Look what is inside. Some new yarn for another Prayer Shawl and in a nice masculine variegated brown color.
I really like the color red in the living room, but not in excess. It makes a nice accent color. Do you like red?

Eat Your Veggies And Grains

For the past few months I have been making a very sincere effort to eat as healthy as I can even though we go out to eat quite often. Frequently, I saute a  variety of vegetables in olive oil with seasonings and put them in serving portions along with brown rice for the freezer. Today I am using what I have handy and that is: carrots,  red, yellow and green bell peppers, red onion., celery, broccoli and mushrooms.

I have found that if I have some healthy food handy in the freezer I do better at eating healthy. Also, I have stopped buying all snack food. My biggest weakness is Ice Cream! But, I try not to have it in the house.

Don't they look good - and healthy?

Recently, I started making brown rice by baking it. And, it turns out perfect every time.  It is so simple. I really like the nutty flavor of the rice and it goes nicely with the veggies!

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Place 1-1/2 cups brown rice (medium or short grain) in an 8-inch square glass baking dish. Bring 2-1/2 cups water, 1 Tbs. unsalted butter and 1 tsp. kosher salt  to a slight boil and stir into the rice to combine. Cover the dish tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil and bake on the middle rack of the oven for 1 hour.  After the hour, remove cover and fluff the rice with a fork. Serve.

Look at my new Rachael Ray stoneware set for my olive oil and vinegar. I really like the way they pour. And, the color is great for my kitchen.  They look nice with my yellow Peugeot salt and pepper grinders.

I hope you have a Wonderful Day.

Glitz And Glamor

Even if my house isn't decorated like I would like it to be, yet, I will be decorated. This is the jewelry that I am going to wear with my new silver sweater. I have had the pin since the early 1980's and always receive comments when I wear it. This past year I was able to get matching earrings from ebay and I was thrilled. The ensemble is stunningly brilliant and I think they will look nice on the silver sweater. I like to think of it as perhaps understated elegance. I like it much better than multicolored brilliance on the silver sweater. This is Kirks Folly Jewelry and the snowflake earrings are a perfect match to the snowflake in the pin. How lucky was I to find them?

And, these cherished bracelets from my Granddaughter will also be a great addition to the Kirks Folly.

I am so pleased with my new sweater.

This Christmas jewelry by Eisenberg Ice Jewelry was another possibility. I'll just have to wear them another time during the holidays.

I hope you are having a Wonderful Weekend.

A Day In Sacramento

What a busy day. This is the day that I have been waiting for - a visit with the Orthopedic Shoulder Specialist in Sacramento, CA.
On our way, we stopped for an early lunch at The Virgin Sturgeon on the American River. Even though the sun was not shinning brightly it was very pleasant and the ambiance of this funky little restaurant was great. I have been to this place a couple times in the past during the summer. At this time of the year the propane stove is burning and the patrons sit as close to it as they can. This is opposite to the summer time when everyone wants to sit at the windows edge to enjoy watching all the boats going by. Our table was in front of the stove as we were there when they opened at 11:30 AM. We both ordered the Smoked Salmon Salad with red onion, dried cranberries, glazed walnuts and a honey mustard dressing. Delicious!

Then, it was time to go to my medical appointment. The doctor was "working me in" between surgeries he was performing at the hospital across the street. Shoulder e-rays were taken prior to seeing the doctor so he could assess them as well as the MRI that I hand carried to the appointment. He reviewed everything with us on the monitor and explained that all of the bones looked good with no cracks or chips. His assessment of the MRI was consistent with the local orthopedic doctor. The short and long of it is: 1-minimize pain, 2-strengthen arm muscles by daily physical therapy, 3-return in three weeks for review of anticipated progress.

I had a choice of going to Physical Therapy in my home town or have his physical therapist provide instruction for a home program. I was so glad that I chose to have his staff provide instruction. It was very thorough. The greatest part was the new approach to Physical Therapy, at least from my perspective. In time past, PT was referenced as "pain and torture". Not so, anymore. All exercises are to be stopped when pain level increases. The focus is to increase strength in my arm to support the shoulder mechanisms.

In three weeks, we will know more and surgery may be discussed. But, all conservative treatment will be used before seriously considering surgery because surgical repair may not be possible because of the extent of the tendon tear across the top of my shoulder. It may not be possible to reconnect the tendon because of the length of the tear. The MRI is quite startling! Overall, I am so happy that I went to this doctor. He and his whole office were excellent - friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.

I am optimistic and look forward to starting my home exercise program.
Since Arden Fair Mall was nearby, we stopped in to do a little shopping for a holiday blouse for me to wear with a long black skirt to a Holiday Party next week. After being drawn to a "little number in Nordstroms, costing $1, 365.00" every thing I looked at thereafter seemed like a real bargain! In another store I was able to get not one but two blouses that I really like and they were 40% off. Now, that is my kind of shopping. That was the only thing I needed or wanted. It was a very good day and we had a lot of fun.

Wishing you a Fabulous Day.

Male Shopping and Lobster

That sounds like I am out 'n' about shopping for a man.  No, not so. I am quite sure I have "A Keeper".  Annnywaaaaaay - - - - - - Off we go again down the mountain, through the rolling hills and across the railroad tracks to another mall to finish shopping. This time for My Special Man's vacation wardrobe.  Mission accomplished!  Both of us are getting closer to completing our travel preparations. I am sure this vacation will be like nothing I have experienced in the past. I will be so spoiled after travelling first class and staying in four star hotels throughout Germany. This new chapter in my life is still one of those marvels that I could only have dreamed about ! !

Since it was getting close to lunch time when we got to the "city", we decided to stop at a Red Lobster restaurant  for  lunch. It had been years since I had been to one.  It was similar to when I had eaten their style of seafood in years past.  But, their lobster could not possibly come close to the lobster tail dinner that My Special Man prepared for me at his house a few weeks ago.  The lobster was robust in size, melt in your mouth flavor and served with a garnish of lots of love.  I really am in heaven!

Have a Fabulous day.

Rainy Day Travel And A Little Shopping

Such a rainy day to be traveling to the Bay Area! It rained all day on and off with some periods of very heavy rain. We left at  8 AM and arrived at our first stop, The Elks Lodge in the city of Sunnyvale by 11 AM  in time for My Special Man to attend an annual luncheon reunion of retired engineers from the Aerospace Profession.  It was my plan to go to lunch and do some shopping during his reunion but the rain was coming down so hard that I decided to stay in the car and knit on a red scarf that I started before Christmas. During one of the briefs periods of little to no rain I took this photo of the Lodge.

This is a silly photo of me in the car looking at the rain drops on the side rear view mirror. As you can see, this was not a very good day for taking pictures.

And, this is the red scarf on my lap as I sat in the car knitting.

After getting a quick bite for me to eat at a drive through (that is all that I wanted) we went to SANTANA ROW an upscale shopping, dining, entertainment and residential environment in San Jose to shop.  The rain was coming down hard so I did not take any photos of the beautiful floral landscaping and the upscale shops. Much to my surprise the buildings did not have any roof overhangs and thus when we exited a store we were immediately in heavy rain. Hassling with an umbrella was not something that I wanted to do.  It did not make for a very enjoyable shopping experience. However, we were able to go to Orvis to buy some luggage for our upcoming travels to Germany. My Special Man was looking for a special feature of a garment bag included in a one-piece luggage and we found exactly what he wanted. We do plan on returning another time and spend the day shopping and just having fun! Since we were making it a one day trip, we needed to head home which would be another 2-3 hour drive.

It is raining again today.

Sending you wishes for a Sunny Day.
