Thank Goodness The Sun Is Shining

It is one of  "those" days and I am not liking that I do not have a healthy car at my disposal. It is sitting at the end of the driveway ready to be jump started in the morning and taken to the mechanic. It is something like five days that I have been "held hostage". That is how it feels.

For quite some time my car has not been maintained on the inside the way I like to keep it. That is partly because my car was not used as much and it just wasn't on the top of my priority list. And, there were a lot of things that just didn't get done!

So, yesterday I cleaned the inside from "top to bottom". You know - under the seats and all the nooks and crannies. I didn't find any long lost valuables! But then, I wasn't missing any, either. Actually, didn't find much other than dust, dirt, leaves and dog hair. Oh, I guess there was one business card and a small packet of preservative for florist flowers that had slipped down between the seat and console. You know that space that can seem like it is in China? I really do try to keep my car in order. I do not like the sight of a car that looks like someone lives in it full time.

This morning I have managed to be out in the sunshine doing some garden work of pruning and general cleaning up. There is always so much more to do than what I am able to do at any given time. But, every bit helps. And, of course the sunshine is a great boost for me especially since I do have some issue with Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Hope your day is Bright and Shiny.

Still Rolling Along

LAPTOP COMPUTER Continues To Purr. I am so happy.

AUTOMOBILE not Rolling Along. I am not happy.

WHY? WHY? WHY? - - - Do I sound like Ice skater Nancy Kerrigan and her cry for help? It feels a little like that! Before long I will know every mechanic and service station in town, possibly the county.

An automobile that doesn't warn you (I don't like secrets) if it is going to start or not can drive you a bit crazy? Why does a dashboard RPM gauge (only visible malfunction) decide to stop and then the car won't start 50% of the time. Consensus is possibly an electrical issue. Scheduled for diagnosis and treatment next week. Yes, I sound like a nurse because I am and always will be.

And, how was your week? I have used all four of my Emergency Road Service calls for the remainder of the year until September. I guess I will have to "start using my thumb"!

It has always been difficult for me to ask for help.

Oh, and while "I am at it", why is Medicare insisting that I pay more for my medications than in the past??? No, we are not going to discuss it!

How Much More Must I Learn About Automobiles

I really love my car. So much fun. But, the ol' girl is starting to show her age even with only 62,XXX miles. But, truly she has not required anything super major. Birth date 1998. Oh my, where did the years go?

O.K. now. The battery was replaced last week. And, yes, I got my monies worth with the nine year old battery that was removed. However, it would have been nice if my annoyances with dead batteries in the past year could have been eliminated if someone would not have continued to put a charger on it instead of replacing the battery. No money issue, just poor judgment.

That said. My battery is again dead! After, the new battery was installed I did a little driving locally and then I did not drive the car for a few days.

Time to put my "thinking cap on". For some reason there is some kind of a drain on the battery causing it to die. Recalling events prior to the battery replacement, I remember stopping at an auto mechanic on the rainy Friday afternoon, after being jump started by AAA. Unable to assist me at the time, he kindly asked a few questions and then decided to remove a fuse that provides current to the radio. I was able to quickly complete my overdue errands by leaving the engine running and locking my doors. Yes, I have a second set of keys! Maybe, not such a good idea, but you do what you gotta do, right.

Well, I imagine the mechanic assumed that I would be returning to him for the car to be serviced at a later date but in the near future. At that time the fuse would most likely be replaced. Not the case. I took it to a different mechanic for the battery replacement within walking distance of my house with nary a thought of the fuse removal days prior. The new battery was installed and I went on my merry way.

Studying the car manual and also going onto the Internet was in order which lead me to replace the fuse, yes I put it in the correct way and place.

Oh dear, I think that comment came from being questioned about almost everything I did in the past four years. Sorry, just a little FYI. Really, I am healing but it takes time.

The following morning I called AAA again for a jump start. Now, all is well and I was able to drive several miles for an out-of-town errand without any difficulty with turning the engine off and starting it again. I believe we have success! Do I get a gold star?

Do you realize how much time, more aggravation and money I saved by thinking it through and taking care of it myself? I am a proud little chick!

Don't misunderstand me, I would much prefer to not be bothered with looking after my car but life is what it is. And, I have always been a survivor. I may fall down but I always manage to eventually get up again and get goin'!
