Thanksgiving Is Next

So, it is time to change out a few decorations to welcome in the Thanksgiving holidays. You know they will be here before the next blink of an eye. It looks like my horn of plenty basket is overflowing with harvest flowers. This table sits at the end of my entry hall and it makes a nice welcoming statement when anyone comes in the front door.

Visions of chestnuts roasting in the fire?  No, not quite. I thought I would try my hand at roasting some chestnuts in the oven.  I bought them when I went to Apple Hill a couple weeks ago and I was a little concerned about some mold that was starting to form. So, I was a little less than enthusiastic about the project. But, don't they look pretty on the tray? Well, that was the last of "looking pretty" to me. I had such a difficult time removing the skins that I tossed them all in the trash. I think a big factor in my failure had a lot to do with the continual discomfort I have been in with my back and right arm/shoulder.  I am trying to make the best of it but it is very tiring. I have an appointment with the doctor next Monday to review and discuss the MRI that demonstrated a tear in TWO different tendons along with spurs and arthritis in my right shoulder. Such is life.

Today, I have been trying to do some deep cleaning in my living room. I am trying to get a head start on cleaning before the holidays. Spreading it out over more days is more reasonable for me given how I feel. It is always nice when the house is nice and clean, don't ya think?

I hope you are having a Wonderful Day.

Look At These Beauties

These candlestick holders from Orrefors Crystal, Stockholm, Sweden (one of the highest quality glass designers and manufacturers in the world) are stunning. They measure 10 inches tall and the base is 5 inches across. And, they are heavy! These were bought in the 1980's when MSM was on a business trip to Stockholm. They will now grace my dining table or somewhere in my home. Yesterday, before returning home from the home of MSM after receiving TLC following my head injury accident, MSM asked if I would like to take these candlestick holders to my home. They are simply gorgeous. I with I could get a better photograph for you to see the beauty.

I will always cherish these candlestick holders. I have always loved pretty dishes and especially crystal as well as silver. I will take some photos of some of my treasures that I have had for a long time and post them in the future.

I am feeling a little better today and I am thankful. However, this afternoon I have a medical appointment at the local clinic to make sure my recovery is on course. My dizzines persists on a continual basis and any movement of my head increases the severity.  I really have not done a thing since I returned home other than play a little with my blog by posting.

Have a Beautiful Day.

Mosaic - Gift To Be

I have been so inspired by mosaic projects that I have seen on the blogs.  Making mosaics is so much fun and I am trying to find time to do a few little projects. The following layout is the first set-up of the tiles. Without a doubt, it will be changed over and over before the end result. When I start applying the adhesive, the tiles may be cut smaller and/or rearranged.

If you follow my blog, you know that I did a kitchen back splash mosaic as my first project. It was a wonderful accomplishment.

The plates below are the dishware that I used for the mosaic. I placed three at the end of the kitchen cabinet so people can see what I used. There are always questions about "how did you do that". I bought the dishes at Marshall's for very little money because the sets of service for four were broken in the boxes. I think I bought about four boxes. And, then I located more of the dish pattern on the Internet.  The dishes are by Sango and the pattern is Tango. I think that is a great name considering the flamboyant colors.

I have many bags of cut dishes in lots of different colors that I hope to use in the future for other mosaic projects.

I hope your day is Fabulous.

What Is The Girl Up To Now

Just what I have been saying with the little animated clip art at the bottom right side of my blog front page.  A little patchwork quilt to hang on my living room wall during the summer months.

POPPIES, POPPIES - I love poppies!

I can see it in my mind's eye hanging over the horizontal book shelf in place of the abstract art and mirrors. What do you think?  I would love to have some feedback.

I think it will work well with the red and black accents that I have used in the living room decor.

These fabrics are from the Poppies Collection by Pamela Mostek.  It is a new collection for Clothworks Textiles. I ordered the kit a while back knowing that it would not be available until now. I am quite sure that I will have a good time working on it.

And, look at this precious bouquet of poppies. My next door neighbors from south of here came up to their vacation home for a few days.  They brought the poppies for me from their garden. Fabulous! They look so sweet next to the fabric.

It is a total coincedence. She did not know anything about my plans for a Poppy quilt wall-hanging.
I have the best neighbors!

I hope you are having the start of a wonderful weekend. We are having thunder, lightning and rain at the moment. Hey, we really need the water.

Girls Night Out

Don't you just love it? This picture hangs on the wall in my living room over the television. It has some great detail that doesn't show very clearly no matter how I take the photo. However, if you enlarge it by clicking the photo it sure helps to see just how much fun "those girls" are having.  It certainly fits our current season but I leave it up all year because it makes me smile and I like the unexpected in my decor. What do you think about it?

Have you had a Girls Night Out lately?

About two years ago, I was "window shopping" with a friend in our little town and it was in the window.  Yes, in the window. I guess they know what they are doing with their window dressing!  I knew if I didn't get it, I would be sorry later. I have never regretted getting it.

Hope your weekend has been Bountiful and Fun.

The Meaning of the Color Red

The color Red is such a wonderful color. According to Color Expert, Kate, Smith, "Red has more personal associations than any other color. Recognized as a stimulant, red is inherently exciting and the amount of red is directly related to the level of energy perceived. Red draws attention and a keen use of red as an accent can immediately focus attention on a particular element."
I recall when some of the first books on "Dress for Success" were published for women. The color red was recommended for a job interview. In 1979, I wore a red dress for an interview at a Fortune 500 company in the Occupational Health Department. I was hired? RED WORKS.
Around the same time I bought a metallic red Datsun sporty car. I enjoyed every single day that I drove that little red car. It was so much fun!
Believe it or not, this post is leading up to the subject of knitting. Recently, I finished knitting a scarf. What color? You say. Of course - - - - - Red. The pattern for this scarf is Canterbury Memories designed by Carol Bristol (http://www.carolbristoldesigns.com/). I knit it in Lamb's Pride (wool-mohair blend) worsted weight yarn. It was a very enjoyable pattern and the yarn is yummy!
Wow, I just added a link and I really didn't know I was doing it. I'm not going to touch it for fear it will disappear. Just kidding!
I am still on this "creating a blog" learning curve. And wow, it's been steep. The biggest challenges have been the spacing and the photo layouts. I can't seem to position the photos where I want them to be on the page. I wish I knew more about computer code. I sure hope it gets easier.
In the meantime, here are a few things that are RED at my home. I hope you like them. Yes, they are mostly from the garden, which is such a passion of mine. The fireplace corner photo is one of my favorite "red spots" in my home. It was a lot of fun creating and painting. There are two more strips of red on the other side of the living room. That photo will be for another day.
Enjoy and take time to smell the roses~
