Home Sweet Home

I am so happy and grateful to be home in my warm and cozy little house with my doggie, Lily.

Returned last evening following three hours driving mostly in rain and sometimes very heavy rain which made it difficult to read the freeway signs. Lily was a very good little traveler even though she requires medication three times a day. She is such a little sweetheart! Well, I guess I have told you that before, right!

I returned home extremely exhausted physically and emotionally. This morning my low back is very painful when I walk. But, everything will be better day by day.

I am thankful that my friend is settling in at the Retirement Village.

This was December 1, 2014 when the Retirement Village had a Monday Night Football Dinner and Raffle. Also, the Calaveras Community Band Played Christmas Music. For as ill as he is he still looks wonderful to me!

He is getting regular nutritious meals along with entertainment and socialization. He is still having difficulty sleeping. On Thursday, he will have his next medical appointment with his GP. And, on the following Tuesday, he will have the follow-up with the Hematologist. I am certainly hoping that the reports are better than what it appears at the present time.

I must never forget the importance of Gratitude.

I truly hope all of you had a Wonderful Thanksgiving.

Family Excitement

Carter, my precious Great-Grandson is going to have a little sister, come April 2015. I can't begin to tell you how excited I feel. I am so happy for my Granddaughter and her family. It was just a few weeks ago that she told me that she thinks she is going to have a girl this time. And, she was right! The family (both sides) is filled with boys/men and she was really hoping for a girl in spite of the fact that the odds were really against her.  They are so happy.

During her first pregnancy she was very small until the end of the nine months and then she "popped". This time she started "to show" early on.

This is Big Brother as a Lumberjack at Halloween - 16 months old. They grow so fast, don't they? What a cutie pie!

I hope to be able to visit them shortly after Thanksgiving.

Have a Great Day.

Birthday Wishes

How can I be the Mother of a Wonderful 52 year old daughter?  I"m not even THAT OLD! Right!

And, SHE doesn't look that age either. Fifty-two sure looks good on her!

It was a very joyful time in my life.

Must Not Forget To Share

My Beautiful Birthday Flowers from my Special Friend. Aren't they lovely?

The Lilies are stunning. and, I am sure I will be able to enjoy these lovelies for many days.

This year's birthday was so much different than I ever anticipated for this milestone of 75 years. By this time in life if we haven't learned to roll with what life we are given it would be quite sad. Eventually, life will resume some rhythm of normalcy if there is such a way of life at this stage. Now, I can look forward to the next milestone birthday - 80!!! My mother and grandmother had longevity!!! I'm up for it if the quality of life is reasonable. And, if it isn't, I'll persevere. Life has not been easy but then, "nobody promised me a rose garden". I have had to create my own and I have been given many blessings.

When I see my adult children it is strange to realize that I am this age. But, then, I get a kick out of hearing them start to experience some of the issues that come along with middle age. If I can't remember something they aren't critical but just get the smile that quietly says "Ya, we know!" Isn't life interesting?

We still plan to do some travelling within the state in the near future. But, we still have concerns with Lily and her current needs. I prefer not to leave her at the Boarder even though it would be at the Veterinary location. Time will tell.

Thanks for listening to my little philosophic views.

Hope your day is Very Enjoyable.

Just A Smile Today

It's not that there isn't anything going on around here. It's just that a lot has been going on.

My daughter and son-in-law came up from Silicon Valley for the Weekend and brought their two, five month old kitties, Miles and Shilo. Wow, babies are a hand full. They were all over the place, up, down and around everywhere! But, Oh, so cute. This photo is at three months of age.

We had a lot of fun. All four of them (kitties plus my daughter and her husband) are quite entertaining. We, also went out to eat a lot. My daughter wanted to buy dinner for me to celebrate my upcoming Birthday.

Unfortunately, Lily has been sick for two days with no appetite and diarrhea. Very challenging for both her and me. I think she will have to go to the Vet for some inpatient care so she does not get worse and I can get some rest. She has been so sweet and cooperative through all her difficulties.

I'll keep you posted on her anticipated progress to better health.

Hope your Week is Going Well.

Look Who Is Going To Be A Big Brother

This is so EXCITING! I can hardly believe that I am going to be a Great-Grandma for a second time. It is so WONDERFUL. The mommy and daddy are so very excited and happy about the timing. The baby is due in April 2015. Just like the Royals. They will be 22 months apart. It so happens that my children are 22 months apart, also. They have no preference about boy or girl. Just, desire a healthy happy baby!

I have known for a couple weeks and it is great that now I can talk about it.

These young folks sure have a lot of life on their plates. The daddy is very high energy, high achiever and a hard worker. Mama is a hard worker, also and a great mama. There is a lot to be said about being YOUNG. You know the saying "Oh, to be young again". It is such a great blessing that they are Very Happy with their lives and have a great love for each other. God willing they will have a lifetime of togetherness. I love you guys!

And, now for  a Flower Shot.

The Gourmet Popcorn Rose is continuing its delicate blooming among the Fig Tree leaves. Yesterday, I picked the last of the figs. They were very sweet. Maybe there will be more next year. It would be nice.

Be Thankful.

Mama Went Back To College

Maybe, my Great-Grandson decided he would do a little studying to help his mama! His mama certainly gets some of the cutest candid shots of him.

The way time seems to pass so quickly, before I know it he will be going to school, too.

Education is so very important, in my opinion. So, I am really happy that my Granddaughter has returned to college to continue her education towards her Bachelor's degree. It will be challenging for her as a young mother and it may take longer than she once thought. However, she is very fortunate and blessed to be able to attend college and not have to pay tuition bills, since her father is retired 20 years military.

She has been working part time in the evenings where she has been waitressing  for four years. And, I believe she will be able to reduce her hours per week so she will have more time to study.

Life around this home-front is pretty quiet and I think - I know - I like it this way. I am looking forward to some cooler weather. Maybe, I will have more energy. I seem to be in a little slump. Perhaps, it is the aftermath of a very busy and challenging summer. I have finished three physical therapy appointments and I do not have to return. I am walking well without assistance and seldom have any discomfort. I am Blessed.

Hope your week has been going Great.

It Just Don't Get No Better Than That

That Great Grandson of mine has really got the good life!!! Don't ya think?

His Mama says he takes every last toy out when he plays. At least, maybe, they are getting their monies worth with their toy purchases!

I hope you have a Fun Day.

Keys To Their First House

What a Happy Time for my Granddaughter and family. When we were at the First Birthday Party for my Great-Grandson in June, their house was in escrow. And, now they have THE KEYS. How exciting! They did a lot of work on the interior before moving in and have more to do. I am so happy for them.

And, soon after moving into their new home it was time to celebrate the Daddy's 30th BIRTHDAY with a CAMPING TRIP with friends.

There's nothing like a cozy camp chair after a hard days work at the lake.

This sweet little family has packed more life experiences into the short time they have been together then I could ever imagine. It seems like every other week they are off to exciting adventures. They are so happy together! It is so wonderful and I am so happy for them.

LILY is responding well to treatment. Her X-rays and other tests were much better except for her potassium level, which was expected. She is now on five different medications for Congestive Heart Failure and will be on them indefinitely. Now, we just have to monitor her condition and make treatment changes as necessary. I am so very grateful and so relieved that she is feeling so much better.

Thank you for all your support and concern.

Heavy Rain Storm and Calla Lily

Yesterday was the second day in a row that we have had heavy rain storms in the afternoon while the Sun was shining brightly. I was on my way home from the grocery store when it started. It didn't last long but it was so heavy that I decided to wait until it stopped before bringing my groceries into the house. I think the photo does a good job of showing how heavy the rain was coming down.

On Mother's Day, my daughter brought me a pretty Yellow Calla Lily and it has started to bloom. I transplanted it into a nice flower pot and it is looking very healthy. Even though I do not generally wear the color yellow it is a favorite color of mine in the garden.

I hope your day is Bright and Shining.

Enjoying The White Garden

There are quite a few white flowers that are blooming at this time. Since most of the time I am a "point and shoot picture taking lady" it is difficult to take a pretty picture without including plants that are past their prime. That is the reason that I usually take pictures up-close. If all the plants bloomed at the same time I would be able to get some fabulous pictures - but that would be so boring!

SURPRISE - This little sweetheart is my Great Grandson's little cousin at six months. The babies were born about five months apart. Those Daddys/Brothers sure make pretty babies!

She looks like a Little Porcelain Doll. Don't you think?

I hope your Day is Wonderful.

There Is No Denying It

Oh, how we change as the days, weeks, months, years and decades go by! For some reason I really like this picture. I am not sure why that is. Perhaps, it has my attention since I became a Great Grandmother.

(google image)

It doesn't seem possible that come next month my Great Grandson will celebrate his FIRST Birthday.

This is a picture of him at 10 months of age.

I could never imagined that I would every have a Great Grandchild. It is WONDERFUL. I just wish I could see him more often.

It's A Good Day

My Daughter and Son-In-Law are driving up again (they came for Easter) to the Foothills from Silicon Valley and we will be going out for Mother's Day Lunch here in Murphys. I think it will be a nice relaxing time together. We have patio seating and the weather is fabulous. I am so thrilled that they will be here.

I received a card with a lovely personally written message acknowledging the mother-roll I have often played in the life of my Granddaughter who grew up without a participating mother. I look forward to seeing her and her family when the next time arises.

And, I certainly wish a Happy Day to all the Mothers as well as All of You Today!

What Is A Baby Cocoon? Do You Know?

When I first heard at the end of 2012 that "The Stork" was going to be visiting our family I was very surprised and thrilled. Oh my, where does the time go?  I wasn't blogging at that time so I thought I would blog at this time about the Cocoon.

I got busy with my crochet hook and made a Cocoon. I had seen theses cozy little bundles in blog land and thought I could make one for the baby that would be gender flexible. So, I chose yarn that had both blue and pink.

It was nice to give the mommy and daddy to-be something at Christmas time before any of the special baby events started happening. They were very surprised and appreciative.

So, here we go. The cocoon is just a big sack for the baby to slip in and usually there is a matching cap. Kind of like "Snug as a bug in a rug".
This is a Google Image showing you the idea.
The cocoon is used when the baby is a newborn and for a short time after, depending upon the size of the baby.
I placed a blue ribbon on one side and a pink ribbon on the other side so they could take off one of the colors when the baby was born.

I do not have a picture of my Great Grandson in it. I'll have to ask if one was taken. And, I do not know if the cocoon was ever used.

I do know that from day one this baby boy was definitely going to be a boy-boy. There were a lot of sports team tiny baby clothes! The cocoon may have been too foo-foo like.

When a baby is born "these days" it's a very different world than when my babies were born 50 some years ago! Yes I sound old, but it's only a number?

None the less, all of the baby things are cute.

Thank you for letting me share these cute baby photos and "a cocoon" with you.

Come back and visit soon.

Who Lives There

That's a very big house sitting on a lot of land complete with horse stables and you name it, it has it.

This is the home of MY TWIN BROTHER in Southern California. Yes, I am a twin. I guess I posted about this in 2009. Just click on this link Twin Brother and scroll to see some childhood photos and a little about the family dynamics.

The last time I saw my twin brother was probably at the memorial service when my mother passed away in 1990 - or maybe it was when my oldest brother passed away after that time.

It is extremely unfortunate that none of my family members have been close with one another. And, now it is only my twin brother and myself that are left. I have not been to his home. Never been invited. However, he sent me the photo of some of his horses after I called him a couple years ago. I found this photo of his home on the internet in 2009 some time after he bought the place. All three of my brothers were married and had very successful careers in their chosen professions. My twin brother has taken the position of distancing himself from the family as long as I can remember. And, the three brothers never got along. It is my belief that the parenting style had a significant influence on family relationships! My two oldest brothers chose not to have children. That may say something!

For about the last 15 years of my oldest (eight years older) brother's life, he and I became quite close and it was wonderful to have him to talk to and to visit. He lived in Oregon and was a wonderful person.

Especially, at times like this when I am going through difficult life changes and events it would be so wonderful to have a brother who cared about me. The vast majority of my life I have felt very alone and have been alone.

What's the saying - - - - - - - - -

And, this is my "Humble Little Abode" for which I am extremely grateful.
I have worked very hard to obtain and keep my little home.

Is There A Resemblance

As I was preparing for my February 18, 2014 post, I noticed my profile picture in the left column as it was visually close to the photo of my mother in her wedding photo. And, I said to myself  Oh my goodness, that is me. Do people ever tell you that you look like your mother?

I think this was somewhat shocking because I seldom see a photo of my mother. If she was still living I imagine I would hear that type of comment more often.

I find it interesting that recently when a friend saw a photo of me and my daughter that was taken this past September, the comment was something to the effect, "You can sure tell she is your daughter". So, what do you think?

Recently, we have been reuniting following a ten year estrangement.  It is slow but it is wonderful to be able to pick up the phone to call her. This undesired change in our relationship started ten years ago following some major life changes in her life. I love her dearly! She has been and is a fabulous daughter who is warm, caring, outgoing, self assured, intelligent, very focused and a high achiever. So often small issues and/or misunderstandings can feel and/or become huge. It is so unfortunate for all involved. She is very happily married and we enjoyed a great Thanksgiving this past year in my home. I have to remind myself that my children did not have healthy family role models in the family as they were growing up, somewhat similar to my life.

Is that a look of admiration - or what?

I love all of my family so very much. We are small in number but so important to me. God willing my son will join us in heart, soul and presence in the future. I'm not so young anymore (but still cluck-clucking) and as we know life can change in the blink of an eyelash.

Family Traditions

Family traditions have been near nonexistent in my family for many reasons which I see no reason to ponder at this time. However, this past year I have been able to do something that has brought great joy to me and my Granddaughter and husband to be.

One of the few things that I received following my mother's passing in 1990 was her wedding rings which included her original set which she wore on her wedding day in 1928 and an additional ring with a larger center diamond which was given to her by my father on their 25th wedding anniversary.

These are not super large diamonds like many that we see today but they are quite lovely nonetheless.

Well, when I learned that my Granddaughter and boyfriend were hoping to marry, I talked with her boyfriend about my thoughts regarding the rings and that I would like to offer them to him to give to her in any manner he so desired. Meaning that he/they could have them reset and do what would please them. He was thrilled with the idea. But, did not want to change anything about them.

Oh, I guess it is time to say that the first time I met him, it was Instant Like! And, a nice bonus is that neither of them have previous marriages or children. Which is nice in my opinion, since it can be challenging enough to have a happy marriage without additional issues.  He is 28 and she is 21 which is great given their individual life  experiences and personalities.  He has a four year college degree and she has finished her first two years and is returning in August to finish.

So, anyway, on the day of their son's birth, I took the rings with me. And, it worked out just perfect when upon our arrival he took us for a quick coffee while she was in labor. He was so pleased when he saw the rings.

And, he asked my Granddaughter post haste to marry him! But, he wanted it to be special so he took her to San Francisco within the week for the special event. He proposed to her on the beach of San Francisco Bay. She was surprised and loved the story about the history of the rings. She is wearing the anniversary ring and perhaps in the future they will redesign a ring with the diamonds from the original matching rings. I like that idea!

Of course, Baby Carter was there to witness the event. He was so tiny, he looks like a doll.

The happy family. All of us are very blessed.

Mary
