I Feel Stitchy

At least, that is what I am telling myself.

It's time to bring a little sunshine back into my life. Maybe these colorful coasters will help. They are so easy to make and I love making things for other people. Maybe, I will have a little give-away here on blogland. It would be a first for me. It has been so difficult getting into the mood to do any handwork. It seems as though I enjoy cooking at this time more than any stitchy sort of thing.

So, yesterday afternoon I put the big stockpot on with Corned Beef. It is so easy to make and I generally try to make it each year. Of course, I added carrots, potatoes, onions and cabbage. I had to do it, especially, since my little town always has a big Irish Day celebration to honor its Irish heritage. The activities included a pancake breakfast, parade, street fair with lots of art and crafts and food vendors and music. The weather cleared enough so that it did not have to be canceled. But, it started raining again quite hard after the parade. I stayed home where it was warm and I could take better care of myself with the fireplace warning the house.

Mid afternoon yesterday, I looked out the window and much to my surprise this is what I saw.

The snow was coming down so fast and before long everything was very white. The St. Patrick's Day activities really snuck in between the weather systems of rain and snow. And, that was wonderful. When events have to be canceled at the last minute because of weather, I always feel badly for all the many volunteers who have provided many hours of hard work.

AND, when my doggie woke me up at 6:30 AM this morning it was snowing again and there was about three inches of snow which was another surprise to me.

I hope you have a Wonderful Sunday. I just may have a Ruben Sandwich some time today or tomorrow.

Birthday Celebration

Ever since I met MSM, he has wanted to take me to Seven Sisters for dinner. And he thought this would be a great time to do just that. It is about one hour drive from home and it was a beautiful evening to sit in a upstairs windowed dining room enjoying fabulous food and a beautiful sunset over the sierra.

Let me share with you what I selected from the impressive menu. As the restaurant's header highlights, I enjoyed the "Taste of Art".

Sherried Wild Mushroom Soup
A Creamy Medley of Wild Mushrooms roasted with Dry Sherry
and topped with an Herb-Truffle Cream and a Potato Gaufrette

Traditional Caesar Caesar Salad
Hearts of Romaine Lettuce with Roasted Garlic Caesar dressing, hand shaved
Reggiano Parmesan, White Anchovy Filet, and Focaccia Croutons

Pecan Crusted Rack of Lamb
topped with Pear-Fig Chutney, served with Sweet Potato-Wild
Boar Bacon Hash and Mint Bourbon Demi-glace

Tiramisu
Lady finger cookies soaked in Kahlua, Brandy and Espresso with
Mocha-Kahlua Mascarpone Mousse topped with ground chocolate

My Birthday was a special day starting in the morning with a phone call from MSM singing Happy Birthday to me. He has a nice bass voice and he still sings in the church choir. My day also included a bouquet of flowers and some nice gifts.

The season is changing rapidly around here. The evenings are cooler and the days are getting shorter. It's nice!

I hope you are having a Wonderful Day.

Sunday Morning Church Flowers

I guess I can't stay away!!! At least for very long.

Our little church had a request lately for members to sign up to provide the weekly flowers for the church alter.  Since there were many blanks on the calender we thought this would be a good Sunday to volunteer. Aren't these lovely? The colors are so vibrant!  In a way, they are kind of a celebration statement of our first year together. And, I might add that I want these flowers to also be my valentine flowers.  I have told MSM my wishes.  He has been so very generous with me lately and I am grateful.  It is so nice to  enjoy these flowers in my home following the church services.

This afternoon, I plan to watch the Super Bowl so  I can see the commercials. I find it to be so much fun. And, also there is a Chili Cook-off downtown on Main Street that we may check out before the game starts. So much available to do and so little time. Where did the month of January go anyway???  My break from blogging isn't exactly happening. Don't know when I will be back.
Whatever, your day brings, I hope you have a Fabulous Day.

Surprise Popping In

I couldn't help myself! I really want to share this celebration with you even though the photos leave a lot to be desired. We had a wonderful evening enjoying reflection of the past year and the happiness we are experiencing after some challenging times. As time goes by I am sure my recollection of the difficulties will lessen. Life is so good that I have to pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming. I am so grateful!

Our dinner was very nice starting with a wonderful crab salad and ending with fabulous desserts.

I guess blogging is addictive or I would not have come back to pop in so soon! I don't know when that will happen again. Who knows?  :-)

I hope you have a Wonderful Weekend and enjoy the Football Game, especially the commercials.

It Won't Be Long Before Graduation

In less than two weeks my precious Granddaughter will be graduating from High School. Once again she has maintained a 4.0 GPA  - during her senior year. I am so very proud of her. She has been accepted at several colleges and is going to stay within the state of California. She has grown up in the mojave desert and received her schooling at Edwards Air Force Base because her father was stationed there during the last years of his active military duty. He retired from active duty after 20 years of service. Since that time he has remained at the base as a civilian employee. Thus, she continued her schooling at the Base.

It has been so difficult for me to figure out what would be a nice gift for her. But, I think I have finally come to a decision. The other day when I was out shopping, I saw this cute little Juicy Couture "coin purse".

You know how teenagers love Juicy Couture and designer names. Yes, they are quite expensive - aren't they?  Anyway, I purchased it and I will be placing a sizable money order inside before mailing it off to her. I am sure that she will be happy. And, then when she moves away as school starts I will get her something that she can use in her new room/apartment.

Wishing ALL the Graduates great success in their futures.

Victory Celebration

Yesterday, following church services we enjoyed a great brunch at a favorite restaurant on the golf course. No doubt about it, I am becoming very spoiled.  Then,  - - - - - - -

In the afternoon we attended a lovely Victory Celebration at the Regional Hospital Cancer Center.

My Special Man is a five-year survivor and has done exceptionally well following surgery for a self-contained tumor followed by chemotherapy. Such a blessing!
This little sachet is filled with wildflower "Seeds of Hope" that we will be planting near the dining room window with hopes that they will grow and we can enjoy them from the dining room.

I hope all of you had a nice weekend and cherished your loved ones.
