My Best Effort

This is the best I could do with my limited photography skills when taking a couple photos of the fabulous fireworks that we saw last night, right here in Murphys.  But then, what fireworks are not fabulous? I think I am beginning to sound like the Chamber of Commerce!

Maybe, these photos look more like abstract art instead of fireworks.    ; > )

After having dinner at a favorite restaurant downtown we went to see the fireworks at a local winery called Ironstone. Another time I will tell you more about Ironstone Winery. Since it is a big amphitheater and the event started at 4:30 PM we decided to drive up above the winery and view the fireworks from my car. I am blessed to have a great 1998 Chrysler Sebring JXi Convertible similar to this picture. Same color and all ~ emerald green with beige top and nice gold wheels. When I purchased the car about 12 years ago it only had 12000 miles. It was a mighty fine deal!

We reclined the seats and just lay back and enjoyed the show. Now, that's living! And, we did not have to wait in long lines to return home. A few years ago, I viewed the fireworks in this manner. So, I decided to show MSM how I take the back roads so I can go later in the evening and avoid the crowds. The fireworks display started at 9:30 PM.

Oh, I must tell you that I had the most divine Crab Macaroni and Cheese for dinner. Real crab, not the artificial! Believe me, it wasn't the time to count calories.

I really do not enjoy going out to dinner as much as MSM, primarily because of the high salt content and calories of restaurant food! He can go out every day and eat whatever he wants and not gain an ounce nor alter his health.. He has always been like that. It's just not fair. I would rather discipline myself by limiting the calories in the present instead of working at taking them off after gaining way too much.

I hope you are Enjoying a Happy and Safe Holiday Weekend. We are having fabulous weather which is certainly an added bonus and blessings!

My 70th Birthday

I can hardly believe it!!!!!!!!!!

I took this photo of myself about three months ago. It has been a long time since I have used the timer on my camera. The whole process was amazingly easy and fast. I also used a tripod which certainly helps a lot. It was on a Sunday and I had just returned from church and I thought it would be a good time to take a photo. The day I took the photo would have been my 50th wedding anniversary if I had stayed married! More on that another time, maybe. I am one of those people that never seems to take a photo that I am happy with, but this time it was different!  I like it!  And, guess what? That is my natural color hair. I am  just starting to get a little grey. I can't take any credit, it's genetic!

I am thrilled to say that I am the happiest I have ever been in my entire life and I think the photo shows it. Considering the journey I have been on, I am so very grateful for this feeling of wholeness that I am finally experiencing at this time of my life.

Yep, it was 70 years ago today that I came into this world with a little partner, named John. Twins were not as common as they are today. This was long before fertility treatment was available. We had a brother four years old and another brother eight years old. So, my mother certainly had her hands full! Because my parents came to California driving a Model T Ford from Minnesota on their honeymoon (it took six weeks!) we did not have relatives to help during this labor intensive time period.

                                                   Aren't we cute?

I remember my early childhood being happy. However, one BIG thing that was lacking is that I did not have any relatives close enough to spend time with. I never met my grandparents. I recall wanting to be a different ethnic background because some others were characteristic of having big families around. Those were the thoughts of a little girl, anyway. I also wanted a sister. What little girl didn't want a sister especially if she had three brothers!

Each one of us on this earth has a different background. And what we have is our own perceptions of what our experiences were. I had to go to parochial school and after fifth grade, I recall becoming very unhappy with the extremely strick parental controls and the isolation from main stream kids. Following high school graduation (during which time I took all the college-prep classes like latin, chemistry, as well as secretarial classes) I moved out of the family home and supported myself and became a Registered Nurse at age 19. That was a lot of very hard work. But, I guess that was just the prelude to what my life was going to be about. There have been many, many challenges of all sorts in my life.  I have a very strong work ethic and that probably has played a part in who I am today. I guess I am a true survivor in the real sense of the word. Nineteen was a very young age to be a Registered Nurse and have such a large amount of responsibility often including "life and death" matters. I have been told that I was a very good nurse but I think it would have been very beneficial to have more life experiences before having that type of responsibility_ _ _ _ _ _ To be continued.

I just returned home a short time ago from my vacation to Carmel. I had a fabulous time!  And, Lily was a real angel dog!  I even stayed a day longer than I had planned. There will be a lot about my trip  including photos in the days to come.

This photo is of Lily having afternoon tea with me at Cypress Inn (owned by Doris Day). What a good dog she was!

I am soo very tired. It was a long drive home. But it is such a nice tired.

Hope you are having a good weekend!

Black And White

Just a click will enlarge the photos.
Flowers come in too many colors to see the world in Black and White.

That's a lot better, don't you think?

Wishing you a COLORFUL day.

Big Beautiful Rose

And, it is a beauty! I do not know the name of this rose. I can tell you that it is one of my favorite roses in my entire garden. I don't know the name because the bush was here when I moved here. The house was built in 1973 and it appears as though it was one of the original plantings. There wasn't much original planting when I moved here. The flower has a lovely fragrance and the blossoms gets very large. As most of you know, it can be quite difficult to duplicate the color of flowers on the computer screen as we see it with our own eyes. I have done my best in my "trial and error" learning approach. The plant itself is quite large and the base looks like it has been here for a long time. The base is large in circumference and is very woody. Whoever planted it - I thank you.

Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns.
I am thankful that thorns have roses. - - - - - Alponse Karr.

Wishing you a SPECIAL SUNDAY filled with lots of love.

Shall We Have Coffee Together

Would you like sugar and cream? And, Oh, please try my Spicy Banana Bread.

It's good - - - It's really good. Don't you think? Oh, I wish you were really here to taste this with me. The flavor is a little different than other banana breads I've made. It's not too sweet and has a faint spicy taste. It's nice and moist, but not too moist. I like it. It's "a keeper".

I have not had very much time to do anything else of interest because I'm still spending a lot of time learning about blogging and my camera. The camera is a nice little Casio 7.2 mega pixels digital camera EX-S770. It fits into my purse nicely and I must remember to put it there more often so I can take more photos out and about. I have had it about two years. My last digital camera was a big Minolta and of course, it couldn't do all the things this little one can. Don't get me wrong, it was a great camera for that time in technology. I have never spent very much time learning all the things my camera can do. And, I know I can take better photos if I just spend some time studying the manual. My photo program is nothing special. I have been using Picasa photo editing. No Photoshop here. I would like to get it but it's just to expensive for me. I am still having difficulty placing my photos. They always come out at the top of the post unless I go into HTML and do some tweaking. And, that can be very dangerous because I have gotten myself into trouble more than once, loosing everything on my post. I have never looked at computer code prior to this new endeavor. But, I will learn it through trial and error, I am sure.

Have a Beautiful Day.
