Superb Home Cooking

The weather is so perfect for Crockpot cooking. So that is what I did yesterday. I saw some great looking beef short ribs in the meat counter and I knew I had to make them for dinner. Wow, did I ever hit a home run with this recipe from Allrecipes.com. When I saw that it had great reviews and that 13,000 (Yes,that is correct. I did not add an extra 0) plus people have viewed and saved this recipe I knew I had to prepare it. As some of the reviews suggested I doubled the sauce ingredients and that was a good idea!

Slow-Cooked German Short Ribs

Servings: 6
"Beef short ribs and onions slow cooked in a spicy red wine sauce. Goes great over wide egg noodles."

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 pounds beef short ribs 2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, sliced
1/2 cup dry red wine
1/2 cup chili sauce
3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 cup water

Directions:

1. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons flour, salt, and pepper. Coat the short ribs with the flour mixture.

2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Brown short ribs in olive oil.

3. In a slow cooker, combine onions, wine, chili sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and chili powder. Mix thoroughly. Transfer the short ribs from the skillet to the slow cooker.

4. Cover, and cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours.

5. Remove ribs, and turn the slow cooker control to High. Mix the remaining 2 tablespoons of flour with 1/4 cup water, and stir into the sauce. Cook for 10 minutes, or until slightly thickened.

Also, I used one package frozen boiling petite whole onions instead of the sliced onions. They were nicely caramelized and tasted great. I also made carrots and boiled potatoes which were especially delicious with the sauce that I reduced down to a silky smooth glazing sauce. I did not add the thickening flour.

This is a winner that will surely be added to a new recipe box of OUR favorites!

It is clear to me that I do not have as much time to post on my blog as often as I would like to. But, I will continue and try to post at least once a week. I will see how that goes. I continue to enjoy all of the blogs that I follow even though I am not able to check-in as often as I would like.

Wishing you a Fabulous Day.

Time For Some Organization

At least this is a start to organizing my clothes closet. I have wanted to organize my shoe boxes with photos for the longest time. It seems as though so many of you are starting the new year with resolutions/goals to get organized. So, why not me too? I really need to go through all my shoes and clothes to discard the items that just don't work for me anymore no matter the reason. It is so difficult when you have to much on the closet rod to properly hang clothes so that they are not wrinkled because of hanging to close to one another. In reality, it seems that we always go back to our favorites regardless of how many choices we have.

The sun is shinning today and that really makes me happy.  I function so much better when it is NOT dreary all day. I have even started a little knitting. Yes, it is another scarf. It seems that I always find a home for them when I am finished. I hope to start a larger project before too long. But, at least this is a start on some craft/knitting arts which I have not been able to do for a long time because of lack of time.

Well, that is it for this post. I must get back to the closet.

I hope you are having a Fabulous Day.

Would You Believe

After we attended Christmas Eve services we went to the home of MSM to exchange Christmas gifts. But, first we exchanged Christmas cards.  And, to our surprise, we bought the SAME CARD for each other! It was a strange feeling but at the same time, a wonderful feeling.

We decorated the Christmas tree at his house the prior week placing the few ornaments that we have collected on the tree along with his ornaments from time past. We really enjoyed having Christmas trees at both homes.

I saw this beautiful cardigan in a catalog. It has hand-sewn beading of square silver filigree and faceted antique brass paillettes bordering the neckline, front opening and sleeves, accented by sunbursts of brass bugle beads and sparkling rhinestones.  I wish you could see the detail better but this is the best photo available. I was delighted to receive it and also empressed that he remembered that I had talked about liking it.

When I spent a week in Paris ten years ago, I bought a perfume by Ives Saint Laurent named Paris and it has become my fragrance of choice. Lately, it has been difficult to find in the Eau De Parfume. But, MSM gifted me with a lovely 2.5 fl. oz. size.  What a wonderful gift!

Buying gifts for special people can be very difficult. But, I had been looking at GPS with him in the past. And, I knew he was wanting to have one. So, that is what I bought for him. He was very happy with it and he has been using it (playing with it) ever since Christmas Eve.

I thought we were finished with our gifts. Then MSM walked over to the tree and took down a little green felt bag (photo below) that I had not noticed. See it on the photo below? He came over to me and got down on one knee and handed me an open ring box and asked me to marry him! I was shocked and had no idea that this may happen. I said "What are you doing?  Get up." After talking for awhile he placed the ring on my finger.  We will take a day at a time and when it feels right we will move forward with a date. What a wonderful Christmas Eve! We are really happy. God works in mysterious ways!

This is a picture of my stunningly beautiful marquise-cut dimond ring!
I am not accustomed to as much attention as I received today at church and at brunch. We are always being told how happy we look, but this was truly different! Now you know why I have not had very much time to blog!

I hope all of you are starting off with a Very Good New Year.
